How I’m getting customers with Reddit comments.
4 steps to start driving organic leads from Reddit
I’ve been very active on Reddit lately, mainly on the r/SaaS, r/microsaas, and r/startups subs.
I spend a few hours each day answering questions, ‘roasting’ landing pages, and chatting with founders.
And it's not enough.
I’m driving 10+ newsletter signups and 2 demos per day from Reddit since I've doubled down on it in the past couple of weeks.
I learned this the hard way, though. I got BEAT UP for faking organic support and selling too hard.
So I just started treating Redditors like my customers on Marketing for Founders. Giving good advice with a genuine attempt to give step-by-step help.
So here’s how I’m getting leads on Reddit.
Curate your feed with good subreddits
Aim to join 15-20, so you have a good list of posts every day. If you're a subject-matter-expert, go where you would learn.
That’s why I spend time on SaaS, MicroSaas, and Startups subreddits. This keeps it genuine.
If you’re not a subject-matter-expert or are unfamiliar with the subreddits available, just google your product’s topic + “reddit” and explore some of the posts.
Find good posts to generate engagement with comments
To generate leads and interactions, I look for 3 things in posts.
1. They are recent, within 24-48 hours. Users will still be on these posts and interested in the engagement.
2. They are relevant. If you don’t know what you are talking about or shoe-horning in your content where it doesn't make sense, you’ll get called out.
3. It’s not too busy. This is a bit counter-intuitive, but if too many people comment on the post you’ll get drowned out in the noise. I get the best conversation on posts with 0-10 comments.
Try out that criteria, but feel free to make your own!
Write for your audience, not your product
I have said this in past newsletters but it’s worth repeating: Nobody cares about your product.
Especially when they are genuinely in need of help.
Here is how I answered someone looking for help marketing their startup lending service.
If someone is asking for a direct resource or tool to help them with marketing, I suggest www.marketingforfounders.com where applicable.
