Get product-market-fit in one afternoon

My method and tools to assess new markets and audiences quickly

Welcome to my second newsletter.

Last week was a big one for Marketing for Founders and me, mostly because of the great response I've gotten from you all.

First, I launched this newsletter; almost 100 of you are already subscribed! So thank YOU for being here.

Second, the new Marketing for Founders platform was soft-launched.
We added over 20 new startups looking for marketing help in just a few days.

psssst... We are running a Black Friday Launch Promo that gets you access for $99/year!

We knew we had product-market-fit BEFORE launching the FIRST version of Marketing for Founders on a scrappy Slack + Notion build.

And it only took a few hours on a Sunday afternoon.

In this newsletter, I'll walk you through measuring product-market-fit before and during your launch.

All you need to know is if they'll buy it.

Seriously...

You don't need a full scientific study with surveys and charts to prove you have a product people want.

Here's an example going on right now:

I'm helping a biotech SaaS founder get their beta product launched by the end of the year.

She is a scientist, so she had spent weeks developing a rigorous survey to deeply understand her audience, their pain, how they buy software, and about a dozen other things.

The survey never asked, "Would you buy this product if it existed?". But that's all you need to know to start.
Aim to get 1o people in your target audience to say, "I would buy this".

Send them your 2-line pitch and just ask them.

I sent mine to 50 SaaS startup founders (like you) to get my product market fit.

Steal this format:

"I'm doing some product research on a marketing support platform I am building.

The platform helps startups do better marketing with hands-on help resources like 24/7 chat, daily office hours, and 1:1 meetings.
Its for founders who are bootstraping and don't have the money to spend on consultants but don't know what to do to get their marketing started themselves.

Would you buy something like this if it existed?"

I sent that to founders on the SaaS subreddit, NoCodeFounders, The AcquiredFM Slack group, and LinkedIn.

25 of them said they would buy it if it existed.
I knew I had something, and it only took me a few hours.

Another benefit is that you'll also have a list of people you can sell to when you launch.

Find your buyers' community on The Hive Index.

They have nearly 3500 communities indexed there.

I wanted to conduct most of my research within the communities I would be building for since I needed to begin generating some interest and goodwill there.

I picked a few in the SaaS and Entrepreneur categories and got to work.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you ask the moderators before spamming your market research.

Use a review platform like Senja to get public feedback.

You need to constantly monitor your product-market-fit to make sure your features still align with your audience.

Senja makes it easy to request, capture, and highlight reviews. It took me about 20 minutes to set up. It also lets you create a pretty cool "Wall of Love".

It will also help you get into new markets as users you didn't expect start to adopt

I even do it for this newsletter. Here is an example:

Pretty simple. One to two questions.

I recommend setting up a review process when you launch so you can hear from your early adopters.

They'll be your biggest champions and help determine your product-market-fit as you evolve.

Promo that gets you access for $99/year!
